Thifty Therapy

Last week I needed a break from all the chaos and did a little retail therapy at the thrift stores. I haven’t been to a thrift store in almost three months and felt that there was a bargain to be had. Unfortunately, it was pretty slim pickins. However I did find a few items that needed to come home with me. My favorite finds are the veggies pictured above. They may look ceramic but are actually made of glass and quite heavy. They were only $2.49 each. I almost missed out on the vibrant throw ($3) as it was hiding amongst the linens. I have an afghan in similar colours that I thrifted several months ago from the same store so this was a must have. The print is from Salvation Army ($4).
I always check out the lighting department because funky vintage lighting is a weakness for me. I had this chandelier in my hands but put it back because I thought the husband would say “no way“. However when he came to pick me up I told him about it and he wanted to see it. Next thing I know, we’re carting it up to the till and shelling out a twenty for it. My plan is to spray paint it black and I’m thinking of getting some cute little shades for it. I may switch out the shades with the milk glass globes as the mood strikes me. It’s always nice to have options. I do however need to have it re-wired because it’s too short to use in the dining room now that the drop ceiling is gone.

Thrifty Finds
We went into the city yesterday and I got to do a little thrifting at my two favorite stores. The vivid knit throw was my first purchase for 5 bucks. I saw it peeking out of the top shelf in the linens area and loved all the bright colours. It’ll go in our den/hubby’s office. Some time ago we bought a small sofa and chair at the Salvation Army for $75. When I first saw them I thought “noooo” because of the colour, a sort of turquoise or aqua. But the two pieces were in excellent condition and we really needed some furniture for the room. My husband convinced me that we should buy them and so we did. Somehow we managed to get both the sofa and chair into our mini-van and took our new purchase home. They fit perfectly in the room and I’m very happy with them. I guess the hubby is allowed to be right at least once, maybe twice in his life
The other items I purchased at the Salvation Army. The store I like to go to gives out frequent buyer cards. For every $10 you spend you get a stamp. Once you collect 10 stamps, you get ten dollars worth of free stuff. So, armed with my fully stamped card I set out looking for “stuff”. It was actually hard to find 10 bucks worth of stuff. I bought the soup tureen (missing the ladle but I’m using it more for decor) $5, the pic frame $1.50, print of Peggy’s Cove~Atlantic Canada .50 cents, blk and white pot $2 and 8 dessert sized plates for .25 cents each. Total: $11 - less buyers card = $1.00 spent.
Hi and welcome to my site.
